May 8th 2010 Carol Peters Exploration in Watercolor |
Drawing and painting are, for me, a form of meditation. If I want to be by myself, I draw or paint. I carry a sketchbook with me most of the time.
I attended California College of Art on scholarships after high school. At that time my interest was a graphic design. Then I discovered and developed a passion for watercolor.
In other media, you don’t have to do it right the first time, but’ in watercolor, whatever you put down is how it ends up; you don’t get a second chance at it. I love the transparency, working with washes. And it is something you can take with you anywhere you go; just grab some water and paper and you’re off.
Carols works have a wide range, from Northwest Scenic, Light Houses, Dory Ships, Native American to Floral Antique & Lace.

This class is designed to teach you many of the joys of painting with watercolors. Carol will be demonstrating several techniques in the morning and then in the afternoon, she’ll be giving us one on one help with our own unique project.
Bring a photo or magazine picture of a very simple subject for your watercolor project. Consider a single flower, piece of fruit, basic scene or building. You could bring a few different photos in case you change your mind after Carol’s demonstrations. If the subject matter is something you have always wanted to paint, you will have a lot more fun and have a better finished piece.
Please bring your own watercolors. Carol will be demonstrating for us with an inexpensive box set made by Lowe Cornell that she purchased at Michelle’s for $24.99. That’s only $14.99, if you use your 40% off coupon, but any inexpensive box set of watercolors will do. I bought a set of 12 tubes for $4.99 at Michelle’s. That would only be $2.99, with coupon. Lori bought a set at the dollar store. So it’s up to you.
You will need to use 140lb. Cold press watercolor paper. You can make your project small, medium or large. You can bring your own paper or purchase paper at the chapter meetings. Make sure you have extra to try different techniques on.
