Coast to the Cascades
Card Contest
For the fourth year the chapter will be producing note cards from paintings by the talented artists in our midst. The cards will be given as thank you gifts and sold at the Greens Show and the Albany Town and Country Bazaar. The note cards were a big hit at the Chapter Sales area of the SDP Convention 2011. Members can order or purchase cards from the Ways and Means chair person- Lori Larkey

Rules and Guidelines

RULES:

ALL DESIGNS MUST BE TOTALY ORIGINAL. We are all aware of the legalities of Copyright violations and want to avoid any complications.

The size of the painted piece must be 7” X 9”. Please refer to the sample for guidance on painting area. You may paint on any flat surface- Masonite, watercolor paper, tin- as long as the size is correct and the surface is able to be placed in a scanner. Contact Dave Ostenberg if you need to order Masonite panels.

The painted panels submitted will become the property of the Coast to the Cascades Chapter of the National Society of Decorative Painters.

All panels must be turned in by the October Retreat meeting. If you are unable to attend the retreat, please make arrangements to have your panel delivered or you may give them to any Board Member. You may also to mail you panel(s) to Lori Larkey.

At the retreat, all panels will be put on display and the membership will be asked to mark their favorites. The top 12 favorites will become this year’s card collection.

Each member that submits a card for the contest will be given a certificate for one free Chapter meeting – a $15.00 meeting, not a seminar or Retreat day. Your certificate must be presented to receive a free class.

GUIDELINES:

Paint only within the gray area on the diagram of the 7 x 9 sample - See Below

Leave at least a 1/8 inch breathing space around all sides of your design so your signature or details are not cropped off during printing.

Sign your name on your painting.
Print your name clearly on the back of the panel.

Try to avoid the colors on the new 20 dollar bill as these colors are hard to print well consistently-such colors as teal, peach, blue-ish green and bright blue.

Please try not to make your card ‘Holiday Specific’. Try to think ‘all seasonal’. Last year we had a few winter and a few summer themes and it worked out just great. Santa, Easter eggs, or witches would be too ‘holiday specific’.
